TEX DIARY ARCHIVE The world as TEX La HOMA sees it. by Matt shaw

I went to see Nitin Sahwney in Bournemouth this week, when it was good it was a fantastic mix of different types of music, everyone on stage had incredible voices and they could really play. For me thopugh it worked best when at it's most simple and acoustic and also when the drummer started with all the drum 'n' bass rhythms, maybe i should check the record out, has anyone heard it?

Mid recording

I went to see seamonster this week too, it was an acoustic only night and Griff and Martin played some beautiful versions of some of the songs that are gonna be on the record and also one new one i'd not heard them do before. Martin stayed on stage to play some songs with Russel as the Apes. "Christmas Ape at Easter" gets me every time, it was good to be able to hear all the words for once too.

Today i got a new live ep in the post from Lou Rogai recorded in Anchorage. the sound quality is so good, i wish i was there to see him play, hopefully Lou's gonna come over to the UK sometime to do some gigs with Tex La Homa and Betika. For details of this live ep and also his "Empty throne" ep check out www.lourogai.com check out his mp3s too.

Rich, drummer

A week today (wednesday 24th Oct.) i am doing an acoustic Tex La Homa set at Soma. This time it's going to be Dave and Richard playing guitar with myself singing, i'm not sure who else is on the bill but it's usually a great night so hopefully i'll see some of you there. On the friday night (fri 19th Oct.) Tex La Homa are playing as a full band at Mr. Smiths in Bournemouth. We are playing three songs that we've never played before and one that sounds completely different than last time we played it a few months ago. I'll leave it up to you to figure out which ones they are. Seamonster are also on the bill that night, so get down there early to see the full plugged in band do their thing.

Last weekend was a really messy weekend. On friday Dave entertained a pub full of people until about 4am with versions of songs by The Strokes, The Jam, The Smiths, REM, The Beat, The Beatles, the Pixies and loads of others using the old organ in the central. Mooro was in his best pub singer via Mark E Smith of voices and also has all the moves. All the songs sounded great but maybe it was just the state i was in. Saturday we all went to consortium which started off being really mellow but turned out to be another night of drinking until the sun comes up and then trying to figure out how to get home.

This week on my stereo have been Sophia, Lou Rogai, her Space Holiday(did you buy the cd yet lee?), Bonnie "Prince" billy, Future Pilot AKA, Micromars, Cerberus Shoal, The Astroid number Four, Urban Legends and Novasonic Down Hyper Space.
Gotta go now to finish mastering the Seamonster ep, look out for the final finished product at the gig on
the 26th. Take it easy, Matt. 17/10/2001

Just finished rehearsing the new set of songs for our next gig, the new songs are sounding really good, with different sounds and new instruments being used. We'll be playing "Always" and "Something Good" for the first time and also a brand new re-working of "The Verdict". As well as our gig at Mr Smiths in Bournemouth on 26th Oct. i shall also be doing an acoustic set at Soma on the 24th Oct. This may well be just me or maybe i'll play some alternative versions of songs with someone else, have to wait and see.

finished the mixes i was doing for the Seamonster record, all three songs they've just recorded sound really cool. I'm looking forward to seeing them live again. As soon as i finished doing that i've started on some new Tex La Homa songs. I recorded the first of four today. All in all the new songs are sounding really positive, which is good i think.

I continued to watch the Real Life series last night, it wasn't anything like as upsetting as last weeks programme (to me at least) and there was even a touch of humour in there with "Jacks own creation". For those of you that didn't see it, it was a completely mad hair do comprising of sellotape and hair lacquer.

I just heard Jervis Cocker on the radio say that Rob from WARP records died yesterday, this is really sad, i never knew the bloke but i love Warp, they are a huge influence on Superglider and released some of my favouite records ever.

This week i've been listening to Bonnie "Prince" Billy's "Ease down the road", Her Space Holiday's "Manic Expressive, Stephen Malkmus, Aphex Twin, Ron Sexsmith, Broadcast and Super Furry Animals.

I spent last night watching a programme called "Our Daughter Won't Eat:Real Life", it was a programme about a girls relationship with her parents and how they deal as a family with her anorexia. At the beginning of the programme vicky (the girl) didn't seem so bad, she had just left hospital and was at a safe weight to be able to go back to her family. As the programme went on i watched as her weight dropped and dropped, at five stone i could barely watch as Vicky talked to the camera saying how much she wanted to get better and how she didn't want to lose any more weight. At four and a half stone she was back in hospital. I think that Vicky and her family are so brave to have made this programme, the whole thing must be so difficult anyway without the added pressure of being followed arround with cameras the whole time. The film was put together very well, it brought back to me the way i felt at fifteen. I was never as thin as Vicky, i think arround eight stone was the worse i ever got, but i remember feeling weak and dizzy, almost like i wasn't even there at all, and i remember that look that i saw in Vicky's mothers eyes that wants so much for things to get better but is totally powerless. I hope since the programme was made that things have got a little better for them, i hope that Vicky continues to get the help she needs and that her parents continue to find the strength to get her better. Did anyone else see this?

Tonight is our first Tex la Homa rehearsal in a few weeks, it's time to change the set arround again for our gig on the 26th of October. It's always really good to play new songs with the band, hearing them come to life. The rest of my time recently has been spent working on the Seamonster record. It's coming together really well, Griff, Mooro, Pete, and Martin have all given great performances that makes things a lot easier for me to mix, and the songs are so good. Check out the seamonster page for more on what they are up to. I know that they are playing with us on the 26th so if you're arround in Bournemouth that weekend and want to come to the gig then try to get there early.

Been listening to "Manic Expressive" by Her Space Holiday, even better than the last record, Ryan

arrhhhh, into a low fi groove

Its raining, it's now dark when i get up, the summer has gone. Still things could be worse.
last thursday was a really special night, Tex La Homa, Seamonster and Exhibit A all played live at the benefit gig for Dorset Animal Workers Group. Betika, Robot Dog and King Razor Dj'd and over a hundred people had a great time. Twelve hundred pounds has now been raised(in total) and it's looking good for those two dogs. There are still cd's available(see the news page). the Tex La Homa track on there is one of the first tracks i wrote and is called "Those Scars" it's not available anywhere else so if you want to check it out, along with tracks from Betika, Factotum, Robot Dog, Seamonster, Monkey Head Transplant, Exhibit A and Mirrorball then contact Griff at griffster77@aol.com

I spent sunday recording Pete's drums with Hubcap for the Seamonster record, the next session is in a couple of hours time, the songs are really special and the records gonna sound great. Seamonster have a few gigs coming up soon so get along if you can for a sneak preview. I guess you can find the dates on the news page or on the Seamonster pages of this site. Mooro's Seamonster diary from last week is also worth checking out if you haven't already.

I should have a brand new MP3 going up on this site today, it's called "Always" i recorded it a couple of weeks ago and was written about something that happend arround about 2 years ago. This is the first time anyone outside of the band has heard it although it will be in the set next time we play live along with 3 or 4 other new songs.

Been listening to "Gold" by Ryan Adams, "When Stars Go Blue" is playing right now and sounds beautiful. It's a great record and worth picking up as soon as you can just so as you get the ltd. edition bonus cd which includes tracks as good as anything on the record proper. Also been listening to Her Space Holiday, Stephen Malkmus, Pavement, Solid State Radio, Betika and John Peel, (who was particularly good last night). Let me know what you're listening too, reading, thinking, all comments top texlahoma@btinternet.com lease......or of course the message board.

Matt Mid (CLEAR) mid gig

Since my last diary the whole worlds eyes have been on America. As the news of the terrorism came flooding in it was almost impossible to fully take in exactly what was going on. What you are actually seeing in that footage is surely some of the most disturbing scenes my generation have ever seen. Lets hope that as a result of this that innocent loss of life is kept to an absolute minimum. My heart goes out to those of you reading this in the States and indeed to all affcted. I got an e-mail from a friend of mine in America yesterday saying "...tell your friends that you love them as much as you can." I think that statement is vital and if you're reding this then you're lucky because you've got an opportunity to let people that you care about them and maybe you can make a difference. http://www.redcross.org/

As for Tex La Homa...........we played in London last wednesday night, i really enjoyed the gig and it was so good to see so many familiar faces there, thankyou to all of you that made it along.
The following night i was working the merchandise stall for Betika on their EP launch night. They played a fantastic set, each and every song perfect in it's own way. The Apes also played live and were most enjoyable.Robot Dog provided a great DJ set as did Paul Hanford. finishing off the night on a high.
Saturday saw me back playing live with Tex La Homa, this time at an outdoor event called Boscome community fare. We played a short hungover set but enjoyed it all the same. The remainder of the week has been spent doing promotion for the dog benefit gig that we are playing at tomorrow night. So far theres been good local support from TV, newspapers and radio and Dorset Animal Workers Group have already sold over a hundred cds which is tremendous. For more information about the gig and the eight track cd you should e-mail griffster77@aol.com or check out the Superglider news page.

This week i've been listening to John Peel(sorry to hear about the diabetes), Her Space Holiday, Belle And Sebastion, Love, Broadcast, bright Eyes, Songs Ohia and of course BETIKA, lots!

Tex La Homa have been in rehearsal this week for our gig in London at Water Rats. The gig is on Wednesday 12th Sept. hope to see some of you there. The night after will be the Betika ep launch night at Bartonka in Bournemouth. This should be a great night with live sets from Betika and The Apes and Dj sets from Supergliders Robot Dog and also Paul Hanford (Brothers In Sound). The Betika record sounds really, really good, those of you that have seen Betika play live will not be disappointed.
I had some of my family down to stay this weekend, some visiting to celebrate Lucies birthday, making the most of the beautiful weather while theres still time, and Nathan with his mates stag weekend. You know the score with stag weekends, i'm sure i don't need to go into any detail, all i will say is the England football result certainly helped them on there way.
Been listening to Pedro The Lion Clem Snide,The Reindeer Section, Betika and ...Trail Of Dead.
If you want any more details of the Tex La Homa gig in London or any of the other Tex La Homa details just leave me a message on the message board, e-mail Superglider, or goto http://www.geekrock.com/ and type in tex la homa then press search and it will come up with the gig info and supply links to the addresses of the venues and maps of where they are.

Friday morning started with a phone call from Paul, "You've got twenty
minutes to get to the station, i've got an extra pass for reading" I just
made it there in time.
Just as well i did because friday at Reading was full of amazing bands. It
started with Bright Eyes playing on the Carling stage. I only recognised a
couple of the songs they played from the records but all the new songs we're
really good and yet another line up of Bright Eyes managed to play one of
the finest sets of the weekend.
The Strokes were moved to the main stage due to the large numbers of people
wanting to check them out. This years biggest hyped band along with The
White Stripes. I've not seen the stripes live but their Peel session didn't
disappoint and neither did the Strokes at Reading. What you get is five men
commited to playing dirty New York rock music, think The Velvet Underground,
Television, The Stooges. They've got the sound, they've got the look, and
obviously believe in what they do, the records great too.
Mouse On Mars are a completely diiferent animal, but just as good, The sound
is much more groove based than on the records really making the most of live
breakbeats and bass but still just as interesting as the studio
recordings. I caught bits of Iggy Pop(still looking good) and PJ
Harvey(looking better than ever) playing the best bits of the latest
album and some great versions of older songs.
Arab Strap weere the last band i watched on Friday, playing on the same
stage as Bright Eyes did earlier on, they played a similar set as last time
i saw them live, the sound was really good, and the atmosphere was perfect
for Aiden's tales and Malcolm's fierce guitar noise. Beautiful.
Saturday began really early and really hungover. To clear our heads, Paul
Helen and i went to watch Public Domain. Hard house is not my thing at all
but it was just the thing to kick start my day and it was really good to see
a field full of people so up for having a good time so early on in the day.
...............Trail Of Dead we're amazing. So much noise, so much passion,
go and see them. Frank Black sounded good for a couple of songs, then i
wandered over to catch the end of Guided By Voices(must check out some of
the records), Gorkys and Folk Implosion, both good but not great in my
opinion.
Mogwai have grown into a brilliant live band, i've seen them a couple of
times before but this was the most animated i have ever seen them. The quiet
bits sounded beautiful and the noise was so intense ant threatened to never
stop. The whole gig was extremly insperational, i look forward to the next
tour.
There wasn't a great deal i wanted to see on Sunday, so i tried my best to
avoid nu-metal. Queens of the stone age were the only thing i heard that i
really liked, until Cat Power on the Carling stage. Cat Power was everything
it should have been, loads of really good songs, loads of which i have never
heard before, including what could possibly be the last good version of
"Knocking on heavens door"(how did it sound so fresh), thats how good she is
at re-interpreting other peoples songs. Go out and buy "The Covers Record"
today to see what i mean.
After watching a little of the pantomime that is Marilyn Manson we decided
enough is enough, time to get the train home.
Thanks to Paul and Helen for the invite, hello to Matt Frocht, a brilliant
drummer and a top bloke, and hi to elizabeth, hope you got home ok.

As far as Tex La Homa goes we did an acoustic gig at Soma last wednesday. In
the end i got a few different people up to play that night, mostly members
of Seamonster. I started up joined by martin on 12 string and played
"Probably for the best" and "Burned", and then Griff joined the two of us on
guitar to play "Wish". Next up was Paul Tucker on mandolin , the two of us
played a cover of "Wild is the wind" that i figured out earlier on that day.
The last four songs were played by Mooro and myself, they were "Coma
Boyfreind", "Whatever You Do", "Feel Tied Down" and "Good Luck". Cheers to
everyone who played and all of those who came to listen, thanks for the
support.
Tex La Homa rehearsed as a full band the next day, trying out some new songs
for the next couple of gigs. It was a good rehearsal at really low volume
due to it being the five of us crammed into my living room. Only a couple of
weeks until the next full gigs, see the news page for venues etc.....look
out for new photos and mp3s soon.

Tonight i'll be playing at Soma doing a set of acoustic Tex La Homa songs with Mooro from Seamonster. We spent a couple of hours going through some songs and he picked the ones he liked best so thats what we're going to do.
Last Friday i played drums with seamonster, it may have been my last with them. The gig was really good, Mooro's guitar playing was fantastic, totally inventive in style and sound. Seamonster and Tex La Homa havw a few gigs coming up together over the next couple of months and i'm looking forward to watching them grow(without having to play two gigs a night).
I rediscovered Sonic Youth over the last couple of days. i'd almost forgotten how good records like "Evol", "Sister" and "Daydream Nation" are. i also played Thurston Moores "Psychic Hearts" which is also a very good record, the Cat Power version is great too. Speaking of Cat Power, there is a new live session going out on the John Peel show this thursday, one not to miss.
I hope those of you going to reading have an amazing time, i'm not going myself but check out Mogwai for me and let me know what they were like, same goes for PJ Harvey, Bright Eyes, Mercury Rev, Roots Manuva, Arab Strap, Mouse on Mars and of course Cat Power.
Look out for those new Tex La Homa photos and mp3s coming soon and let us know what you think.......................
Listening to Sonic Youth, Super Furry Animals, Clem Snide, Cat Power, Pedro The Lion.

The debut tex la Homa album "Dazzle Me With Transience" is now all finished and ready to go, hopefully i'll get some of the artwork and photos from the recording sessions up onto this page in the next few weeks. "Feel Tied Down" is one of the tracks on the album so if you would like a preview then head to the mp3 page to download. I'll try to get some new mp3s up soon too.
We will be playing some of the new songs in an acoustic set at Soma next wednesday 22nd August. Soma is held at mr Smiths in Bournemouth.

I played my last gig with the apes last friday, in fact it was a busy week for The Apes last week. On Thursday we played at Bartonka with Dogheads and My Favourite Table. I really liked Dogheads with their boards of canada like electronica and (as the name suggests) dogmasks. The Apes set was good with moments where it sounded really mellow and together to a full on noise attack. Friday nights gig(supporting The Clams) was much more about the noise. By the end of the set we had one broken keyboard stand, Paul sitting on the floor punching his keyboard, Russell doing a weird tribal dance, martin screaming very loud and Rizlo jumping up and down on his bass, i just played on hitting the drums harder and faster and then it was all over.

This friday i will be playing drums for Seamonster who will be playing at Mr Smiths with Circa. I think it costs four quid to get in, if your interested then contact griff@superglider.com for the details.

We all went along to Solid Air on Monday to watch Betika play. As always they were amazing. They played some of the usual songs, (some of which are on their new ep) and also some new songs (also on the ep) all of which were really nice to hear. If you can then get along to see them then do so at the earliest opportunity, they don't play very often but when they do it is very special.
Check the gig guide for more Betika gigs and also for dates by Seamonster, Robot Dog and Tex la Homa.
This week i've been listening to The Album Leaf, Low, Nick Cave and the bad seeds, The For Carnation, sophia and The May Queens. When i've found the time i have been reading 45 and the Big Takeover which has a really good interview with Ari Up in it which makes you want to play The slits very loud.

TEX DIARY The world as TEX La HOMA sees it. by Matt shaw

Saturday was the third and last of the loft parties that Tex la Homa have played at. The parties all took place at Richard(Tex la Homa drummers)flat which is/was located in the center of Poole high street and is very cool indeed. On this occasion the party consisted of live sets by seamonster, Tim, Blissed Out and Tex la Homa. Later on there was other live music including some ex-members of monkey head transplant and also Exhibit A with Kim singing. The dj for the night was Conrad our local music entrepeneur and purveyor of live music at his "Solid Air" and "Rubber Soul" nights. He was joined by Paul(brothers in sound) and Mikey(top bloke). There was also another dj downstairs but i have no idea who. The party was loud, fun, messy and drunken as all good parties tend to be and it is a shame that this was the last of them. Maybe now is the time to resurrect our old Kamikaze club nights and take Superglider out of the loft and into the clubs of Bournemouth and the UK.
Still on the theme of Richards flat, tonight will also be our last rehearsal in there, later on this evening we shall pack things away for a last time(after Mal has taken the necessary photographic evidence) and troop downstairs to make use of the conveniently positioned Indian restaurant and drink to the rooftops, cheers!

this week i shall be playing drums for the Apes twice, the set sounds good and i'm sure will be, next week i shall be playing drums for Seamonster which also sounds really good. The next Tex la Homa gig will be accoustic and will probably be just me, possibly with some help from friends but not the usual line up, this will take place at Soma which is a great little accoustic night at Mr Smiths in Bournemouth. it has a good atmosphere and a crowd that like to listen, very much like what Solid Air used to be like when it was there. Solid Air is still going strong though and if you live near Bournemouth and want to check it out then next monday(13th August) will be the night to do it as Betika will be playing a brand new set of songs there which promises to be fantastic. Check out www.solidairlive.co.uk for more details.

Been reading "45" again this week by Bill Drummond which keeps reminding me of "watch the KLF burn a million quid" and also "Bad Wisdom" neither of which are good for the soul.I've been listening to Cat Power which i'm sure is good for the soul, Chan Marshall's version of "Wild is the wind" could well be the most beautiful thing ever recorded and can be found on "The Covers Record", i know i keep mentioning this record but it really is that good. "Dear Sir" and "Moon Pix" are the only other records i have by Cat Power but both are also worth your hard earned cash. also listening to Betika, Mouse On Mars, Plaid, Low , New Order and Joy Division.

Hopefully i will see some of you out at the next few gigs, for a complete list of whats on when please look at the Superglider news page, now where are those drumsticks........

Matt 08/08/2001

Waking up with a hangover is never a good way to start any afternoon, especially when seconds after waking up you realize that you've got to do a photo shoot in an hour. after a very shaky start things stoped spinning arround and off we went in search of breakfast and locations. breakfast sounded like a great idea and was apart from the grumpy cafe owner who didn't want to cook, the phone that didn't stop ringing and the carnival that passed through right outside with a fat john travolta and olivia newton john staring into each others eyes belowing "your the one that i want", ..........more tea please. the subway was better, less people to deal with give or take the odd luggage car and no one asked if we were students. on from there to some back streets, fire escapes, and urban scenery. a job well done, thanks v.

Have any of you listened to the state of daytime radio recently? i did yesterday and was subjected to so called skatepunkrap bands who sing about missing biology but clearly left school at least fifteen years ago, dope indeed, and if it's not that then it's pretty young canadians one minute moaning on about how they are sleeping alone again and the next telling us how they can't stay put and must fly away. most confusing. if you listen for long enough you will hear the same songs repeated at least three times during one morning and come away thinking all music must be produced by the same few people. thank god for cds. ah yes cd's, this week i've been listening to the new super furry animals album, plaid's "double figure" and mouse on mars' "ideology" as well as revisiting the fantastic "covers record" by cat power.

Theres been much debate over chris morris and his "brass eye" special this week. even our message board is full of it. an interestig issue not dealt with very well by the media in general although the channel four news did do a very good job of making sense of the programme and made fools out of the politicians who mouthed off jumping on the "i'm outraged" bandwagon without even having taken the time to watch the programme first. let us know your thoughts on this subject on the message board, and anything else you think is important too.

listening to lots of japanese music today, my friend pete recently came
back from there with lots of cd singles to check out. at the moment my favourites are the r&b of utada hikaru with her slick beats and hilarious cover of "fly me to the moon". and the slightly more noisy
trio called triceratops, which as good as it is doesn't(on this single
anyway) live up to it's mighty name, good photo though. i have to admit that "red shift" by nehha (then called kingsize) is the best record i have recently heard from japan. they have a website which can be found at http://www20.cds.ne.jp/%7Erb-kfk/index.html go and visit it and
download their songs.
the tex la homa gig at soma went well last week, we played "probably for the best", "feel tied down", "wish" and "burned". the audience listened,
the sound was great and the lights were hot. we will be playing there
again on the 22nd of august.
i wrote one new song this week called "good luck" and will be including it in our live set along with the two new ones from last week.Rehearsals are sounding good with the band all really listening to each other, things are sounding better than ever. Last weekend some of us went along to the "grooves on the green" festival type thing which took place just down the road from my house, it was a
good sunny day so we just sat arround drinking and taking in the music which i think is a great way of spending a hot day in july. we changed gear a little for saturday night already a little worse for wear, things didn't improve much in that department as anyone who saw us dancing later on can testify. i haven't drunk so much since my brothers birthday a few weeks ago and really should no better by now.oh well.................seamonster rehearsals sre sounding good, i'll now be playing drums with them for a little longer, there are three gigs coming up over the next couple of months and i think it will be interesting to see things develop. martin and rich work really well off of each other and griffs
getting better and better. check out the news page on this site for more details. see you somewhere soon in a venue with tex la homa, seamonster,
betika and the apes.

Tonight i'll be playing at a new acoustic night called soma, joining me will be griff playing moog and guitar and martin from seamonster playing 12 string, maybe i'll see some of you there. i spent some time recording two new songs this week the first of which is called "always" and is a little more uptempo than a lot of tex la homa songs and also has something approaching a pop chorus, not to mention a massive bassline. the second song is called "to what end" and couldn't be any less pop had i tried, it is the most doped sounding song i have ever recorded and should never, ever be played until at least 3am. maybe one of them will end up as an mp3 on this site soon, it's been a while since the tex la homa mp3s changed so i'll try and sort something out soon.

I got the new her space holiday cd this week, its called "ambidextrous" and is a remix album featuring the likes of elastica, brave captain and bright eyes it's a really good record so if your thinking of checking out some new music my advice would be to go and buy it, www.wichita-recordings.com has more details. apart from her space holiday i've been listening to the beta band, miles davis, robot dog, belle and sebastion, kings of convenience and simian. see you on the message board, matt.

Matt 18/07/01

The tex la homa gig this week went really well. the night started with seamonster, five songs and i enjoyed every one. i was playing drums for seamonster, along with martin and richard who both played guitar and bass and griff on guitar and vocals. this was griffs first gig in some time and it was really good to hear him doing his thing again. after the seamonster set it was time to re-arrange the stage for tex la homa, griff moved his stuff accross to the side of the stage, i placed a chair where he had been stood and joined by the rest of the band launched into feel tied down. the rest of the set we played was built mainly of very quiet and delicate songs. the sound was perfect and the audience listened, which is all i can ask for really. the absolute darlings finished off the night and everyone went home happy. i went over to steves house from betika this week to play drums on a new version of one of their songs. it was sounding good. i think betika have got an ep ready to go now, i for one am looking forward to hearing it. the next day dave and i went to see belle and sebastion, they were very good indeed, we really do need more touring bands to come to bournemouth. it made me miss living in the north west and being able to watch whoever was touring in manchester, liverpool or stoke...oh well. reading 45 by bill drummond at the moment, a very strange man, but a good book. been listening to the album leaf, simian, clem snide and mogwai. might do some more recording tomorrow.................

The weekend was fantastic, i spent thursday driving up to sandbach for my brothers 21st birthday. It must have been one of the hotest days of he year but the drive was still pretty cool, a sunny day travelling up the country listening to "your soul against the weekend" by betika and some new tracks by brothers in sound, both of which suited the journey nd sped me on my way. it's always funny being back in sandbach after being away for a while, seeing little changes in the town i grew up and bumping into familiar faces and people i never knew before. The party went well from what i can remember and it was good to see some old friends. Dai thomas sang his delta blues the night before to a very hot crowded room in a small pub in haslington which was really good and got me thinking about gigs...........on getting back i heard that betika can't do the gig they had planned in salisbury which is a shame because i really wanted to see them play again, maybe soon, something special. The next tex la homa gig is just a week away now at mr smiths in bournemouth, if your planning on going to the gig get there early to see seamonster and stick arround to watch the absolute darlings, should be a really good night.

Things have been really busy since getting back from sandbach, in the studio this week with russell and martin from the apes and Paul from brothers in sound with king razor on mix duties. Griff playing experimental ambient and krautrock sets with musicians he's never even met before, doing sound for exhibit a and accross the week rehearsing with tex la homa, seamonster and betika.

Not read much at all this week but have been listening to Kid 606, Lambchop, Songs Ohia and Low. The debates seem to be hotting up on the message board, get involved, let us know what you think, what your listening to and reading and all the other usual rubbish too.

Matt 28/6/2001

Lots of exciting things going on behind the scenes this week, nothing much to tell you yet although i can reveal that Seamonster will be playing with Texlahoma on Friday 6th of July at Mr Smiths in Bournemouth. This will be their first live appearance and will be unmissable. I have also been informed there will be some brand new and exciting music coming from superglider over the next few months(some of which i am involved in in some capacity) so watch out for news on those records.

Its my brothers birthday this weekend (happy birthday adam) so i'm off to sandbach for a few days of trying to keep up with him and his mates drinking in the many town center pubs, now that summer is here i'm sure that the rest of the supergliders will be all out and about doing exactly the same thing arround the country. Let us know what your all up to, what are you listening to, what clubs are good, which radio stations do you rate, let us know the answers to these questions and tell us anything else you think we need to hear about, it doesn't matter where you are, get in touch, tell us whats great and whats not. All suggestions, comments and rants to the message board please.

So the elections over which is good. Hopefully things will get better, glad the tories didn't get in, all feels a bit empty though, somethings got to give, not enough choice.

Just finished reading microserfs which had a really good ending, it's always nice when books don't disappoint at the end.

We have a Tex la Homa rehearsal tonight, the first one in a couple of weeks, i've got more new songs for tonight, so our next gig will have another brand new set of songs. Talking of which we will be playing on Friday 6th of July at Mr Smiths in Bournemouth, this gig is with the Absolute Darlings and i advise that you get there early as there might even be the first ever public performance by SEAMONSTER.

I played drums again for the apes this week, at an open air party, it sounded great from where i was, and it was good to play outside, this theme continued into the weekend with the Wimborne festival. I went down there with a couple of friends and met up with some more, drank talked wondered why there was no folk music at a folk festival then walked two miles to a rave, which was great until i noticed it had suddenly got very cold and there was no reception on anyones phone to call a taxi to get home. The walk back to civilization seemed a very long one.......all tales of debauchery to the message board please along with anything else of interest to you or anyone else.

matt looks a bit stunned !

I played a couple of gigs this week.......... Thanks to everyone who came to see Tex la Homa in Southampton, we all had a really good night, and enjoyed playing at the venue, even though we had no room to move on stage. The sound was great and it was good to see so many new faces. The next day saw me playing drums with some new friends of mine......THE APES. We played for about half an hour, pretty much just improvising the whole way through.

Last Saturday was Mal's birthday, we arranged a pretty full on party with live sets from Monkey Head Transplant, The Apes, Tex la Homa and Betika, and dj sets from Mike, John and Paul from Brothes in Sound, Thankyou to everyone whao took the time to play and dj, hope you all had a great time.

This week i've been listening to "Liverpool sound collage" the new Album leaf cd and a new compilation on glitterhouse records, been reading "Magnet" magazine and the latest issue of the Organ, check them out online at http://www.organart.demon.co.uk/index.htm . I'd still like to hear from anyone who knows of any good Fanzines you think we should be checking out, any books we should be reading, or music we should be listening to, all suggestions on the message board please.

Any escape from twisted politicians beltching shit at me from my own tv screen would be welcome at the moment, see you soon..............

This week has been spent putting the finishing touches to the Texlahoma album, i'm really happy with the way it's sounding, they'll be more news of this going up on this website very soon.

Wewere back in rehearsal this week with Dave back in on bass duties, we are playing a completely different set than the last few live dates, lot's of new songs and a new approach to some of the old ones, our next gig is on Wednesday May 30th at Talking Head in Southampton, so if any of you are in that area you can catch us then.

I heard some finished mixes of some SEA MONSTER songs last night, these songs are beautiful, theres so much going on in them with so little instumentation, hopefully you will get to hear them sometime soon, we must coax them out into public, we need to hear these songs live. I also heard the new FACTOTUM cd which sounds fantastic, theres so many differnt styles going on there, it's really good to be arround all this fantastic music.

Still reading Microserfs at the moment, been listening to HER SPACE HOLIDAY, THE VELVET UNDERGROUND, BRIGHT EYES and NEHHA, John Peel had a really good MOUSE ON MARS session on the other night too. As always if theres anything you think we should be checking out let us know, until next time......................

They all play drums!

Hungover!

It's a beautiful day but i can't find the energy to do anything so instead i thought i'd update this diary. Last night was the Texlahoma and Monkeyheadtransplant gig. Monkeyheadtransplant were quite simply awesome, and if thats the last time they play then we have been robbed of a national treasure. Many thanks to Hubcap who played bass with Texlahoma last night and to everyone who came to see us.The night ended up back at mine and i'm not sure what time the party went on til because i fell asleep when looking for more cds.

Mike Ladd's "Welcome to the afterfuture" is soundtracking my day, it's just right for today, an incredible record. You should check it out at www.ozonemusic.com. I also recommend Nehha, you can check them out at www20.cds.ne.jp/%7Erb-kfk/index.html

Were looking at putting together some more gigs as we now have nothing coming up. If anyone reading this promotes live music or would like to see Texlahoma come play in your town then get in touch with us. As soon as we have some dates confirmed i'll put them up on the site, so keep checking.

Been reading "Microserfs" by Douglas Coupland this week, it's tunring out to be really good, it's funny because the book was written in 1995 but the technology doesn't seem to have dated at all, at least not to me. Other books by Coupland i can recommend are "Generation x", "Gilfriend in a coma" and "Polaroids from the dead" all of them modern day classics.

If anyones got any fanzines, music or anything else you think we should be checking out then e mail me at matt@superglider.com or leave a message on the board i look forward to hearing from you...........................

Matt plays drums!

I recorded two new songs this week, one is a delicate piano based song the other more noise based than anything else with the song itself in competition with the wall of noise guitars and backwards dictaphone ramblings feeding back on themselves, hopefully you'll here them soon.

Texlahoma are in rhearsal tonight for next mondays Solid Air at Bartonka, we're doing one old and three new songs, also playing that night are the boiler suited Monkeyhead transplant who promise me they will play a bizarre megatonic megaphone set.

There should be two new Texlahoma mp3's going up on the site in the next couple of days so off to the MP3 page with you and get downloading, some of you may recognise one of the songs from the live set. I fully recommend "She took his breath away" for anyone who's into fanzines, loads of good reviews and features, you can find out how to get it from kev.aldersay@virgin.net , until next time............

I did two gigs this week and I wasn't supposed to be doing either, the first was playing drums for Exhibit a, which was a really enjoyable experience. I haven't played drums in years and i've never played any of their songs before but we managed to get through the set pretty well and it was nice for one night to be doing something different.

The second gig was doing a solo accoustic set, I played three Texlahoma songs, WHATEVER YOU DO, COMA BOYFRIEND and SEARCHING FOR ANSWERS, it was good to do an impromptu set, although I was feeling a little sick due to the antibiotics i'd taken, still..................... Been reading "Laughing with the Gods" this week, which is an interview with poet/author Charles Bukowski, I've been reading his books for years so I'm finding this book really interesting. For anyone who 's never read any Bukowski before I recommend you go out and find a copy of "Ham On Rye", a brutally honest account of his childhood and adolescence which makes a fascinating read.

Texlahoma rehearsed with Hubcap playing bass last night, he will be doing the gig with us on the 10th of May, Dave who has most recently been playing bass with us will be playing as part of Monkeyhead Transplant (appearing with us on the 10th), catch them while you can. I wrote two new songs this week "Feel Tied Down" and "Reflection", hopefully one will be going up on the site as an mp3, ..............keep yer eyes peeled!

Solid Air on Monday was a good night, we played FALLEN LEAVES, THE VERDICT, HERE WITH YOU and COMA BOYFRIEND, a good way of trying out new songs live. Monkey Head Transplant also turned in a good set but where were the megaphones?........Where?!

The Exhibit A boys took me off with them last weekend to do sound for them at a house party, it was a really good night, with the boys in top ROCKACTION form, it all got very messy later on though due to a well stocked fridge full of anything you could dream of drinkwise.

Good zines i've been reading this week are Robots and electronic brains, check them out online at www.come.to/robots and Organ fanzine, still great after all these years www.organart.com , does anybody have any zines to plug? let me know on the message board. Our next gig on May 10th at Bartonka in Bournemouth is getting closer, look forward to seeing you there.......................

This page will be updated on a regular basis in an attempt to keep you informed on matters related to TEX and the band and anything else that pops into my head. And what better place to start than last weekend at All Tomorrows Parties.

We set off for ATP with various members of the live TEX experience and the mighty ROBOT DOG, to find our luxury self catering unit in the glorious holiday empire that is Pontins, CamberSands.

Our first, and subsequent days were spent largely drinking, however we did manage to take in almost all the bands including a breathtakingly genius noise set from the magnificent BROADCAST, the sheer beauty of LAMBCHOP and YO LA TENGO and a cracking hiphop set from ATMOSPHERE.

Saturday got very messy with my old drum teacher Keith from BROADCAST, who plied me with much Guinness, making sunday morning quite traumatic until I was cheered up by purchasing fanzines and watching Griffs beloved Spurs getting slaughtered 2-1 in the FA cup.

A big Hello to everyone we met over the weekend, hope those who got them enjoyed the CDs.

After returning from the festival, TEX La HOMA has launched straight back into rehersals, learning three new songs in preparation for the next Tex gig at BARTONKA, Bournemouth on (my birthday!) 10th May.Hope to see you there.

More to follow...
